IdentityMind Global Raises $10 Million to Fuel Global Growth

IdentityMind Global Raises $10 Million to Fuel Global Growth

In a Series C round led by Benhamou Global Ventures and Eastern Link Capital, IdentityMind Global has secured $10 million in new funding. The investment, which also featured the participation of Hanna Ventures, Overstock.com, and Zanadu Capital Partners, will help support the digital identity specialist’s expansion within international markets and to grow its new business unit designed to provide KYC and AML solutions for ICO and cryptocurrency markets.

“We feel privileged to be working with an elite group of high quality investors who have a proven track record of success,” IdentityMind Global CEO Garrett Gafke said. “The market demand for digital identity-based solutions in today’s global digital economy is booming. IdentityMind, the pioneer in digital identities, with hundreds of customers spanning six continents, is uniquely positioned to meet growing global market demand.”

An alum of Finovate’s developer conference series, FinDEVr, IdentityMind Global is looking specifically to markets in Asia, Latin America, and Europe for expansion. And with regards to the new market of ICOs and cryptocurrencies, the company’s announcement comes only one week after unveiling its new business unit dedicated to providing anti-fraud solutions for ICOs.

Overstock.com CEO and IdentityMind investor Patrick Byrne referenced the rise of ICOs and their needs in the funding announcement. “ICOs and cryptocurrencies are going mainstream and IdentityMind is one of the key players in helping ensure transparency, legitimacy, security and compliance which will only lead to faster and greater marketplace adoption.”

In addition to new opportunities in the emerging ICO and cryptocurrency space, IdentityMind Global has also taken advantage of new trends in regtech more broadly – including the EU’s GDPR – that will increase demand for its AML, KYC, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and fraud prevention services. The company cited statistics from Frost & Sullivan that indicated that the global RegTech market could reach $6.45 billion by 2020.

“The ongoing growth of synthetic or stolen identities requires digital identity-based solutions to prevent identity fraud and maintain the integrity of the global digital economy,” Managing Partner for Eastern Link Capital Yodong Hou said. “IdentityMind has been identified as a ‘go to’ partner for those companies needing to implement an effective defense to identity thieves, online fraudsters, and money launderers worldwide.”

IdentityMind Global participated in Finovate’s developers conference in London in 2017, presenting its Entity Link API that helps businesses meet KYC and AML-related risk and compliance requirements. Last month, the company announced a partnership with fellow Finovate alum Mitek, integrating the two fintechs’ digital ID verification capacities. With this investment, the company’s total capital stands at more than $20 million.

IdentityMind Global Introduces Anti-Fraud Solution for ICOs

IdentityMind Global Introduces Anti-Fraud Solution for ICOs

Trusted digital identities specialist IdentityMind Global is doing its part to make the world better and safer for cryptocurrency and ICO market participants. The company unveiled its KYC Plug-in for ICOs today, a turnkey SaaS product that enables firms to conduct KYC and AML checks on those seeking to invest in ICOs.

“As ICOs become more prevalent, and as money continues to flow into ICOs, regulators globally are starting to take notice,” IdentityMind Global CMO Jose Caldera said. “The regulatory risk, in conjunction with the risk of enabling fraudsters, financing of terrorism, and money launderers should motivate organizations performing ICOs to properly identity the participants in the ICO process. IdentityMind is at the forefront of delivering an easy compliance solution to companies conducting an ICO.”

Left to right: CTO Kieran Sherlock and CMO Jose Caldera during their presentation “Entity Link API” during FinDEVr London 2017.

The plug-in includes a variety of features to ensure companies are able to perform KYC and AML checks. These consist of a web-ready software client to guide the ICO participant through the KYC process, a pre-configured risk-based KYC ruleset based on local regulations, reports for examiners and auditors, a due diligence platform, and the ability to validate the risk of bitcoins used to participate in the ICO.

“By working with IdentityMind, we are assuring that all participants go through KYC and AML processes before partaking in our $500 million Dragon ICO,” founder and CEO of Dragon Corporation, Chris Ahmad said. “This is perhaps the largest ICO to date and by working with IdentityMind we’re able to verify participants on a global basis in a quick and efficient manner.”

IdentityMind Global presented its Entity Link API at FinDEVr London 2017. A component of the company’s RegTech API, Entity Link API provides the analysis and machine intelligence that determines whether the person on the other end of the transaction is a real entity, is authorized to use the data it is presenting, or posses a risk to the corporate brand in some way.

Named to the Global RegTech 100 last fall, IdentityMind Global announced an expansion of its partnership with fellow Finovate/FinDEVr alum Mitek in late January, adding biometric facial comparison technology to its compliance and fraud prevention platform. The company began the year winning a new patent for technology that improves screening for sanctioned individuals making cryptocurrency transactions.

IdentityMind Global has raised more than $10 million in funding, and includes Lakewood & Company, MoneyTime Ventures, and Overstock.com among its investors. Founded in 2013 by Garrett Gafke (President, CEO), IdentityMind Global is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.

Ready for some good news on the cybersecurity front?

Most of the time cybersecurity appears in the headlines, it is a report of a breach that just occurred or a new threat to guard against in the future. Caught between the hack that caught us unaware and the certainty that it won’t be the last, we can lose sight of the fact that there are hundreds of cybersecurity firms with thousands of security professionals that are working around the clock to make our lives online a lot safer. And many of these companies are Finovate alums specializing in service to the financial industry and its customers.

Ted Ross, founder and CEO of SpyCloud, demonstrating the company’s Best of Show-winning platform at FinovateFall 2017.

Importantly, not only are these companies working 24/7/365 to fight cybercrime, but also many of them are teaming up and partnering with financial institutions, retailers, and each other to test their technologies, make key improvements and enhancements, and ultimately get their fraud-fighting solutions to market.

With that in mind – and in line with our October focus on cybersecurity – here’s a look at the partnerships, agreements, and collaborations forged by our cybersecurity-related alums so far in 2017.
