Secure Document Exchange Platform FutureVault Teams up with Envestnet | Yodlee
  • Secure document exchange and digital vault platform FutureVault announced a partnership with Envestnet | Yodlee.
  • FutureVault made its Finovate debut in 2016 at FinovateFall in New York.
  • FutureVault CEO Daniel Kenny took the helm of the Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based company in January.

Last week we announced that Envestnet | Yodlee had partnered with fellow Finovate alum Backbase to bring new data aggregation, account verification, and enriched transaction data insights to banks. This week we report that Envestnet | Yodlee has forged a collaboration with another Finovate alum, FutureVault.

The partnership will enable FutureVault to leverage Envestnet | Yodlee’s data aggregation and analytics platform to enhance its ability to serve its financial services and advisor clients with advanced document exchange solutions. FutureVault’s platform supports front, middle, and back-office teams with the tools they need to securely access, share, and manage sensitive information and documents. These tools give organizations the ability to aggregate and centralized financial documents and data from multiple institutions into FutureVault’s secure digital vault, provides financial planning professionals with a holistic view of client finances, and enables trusted advisors to build better relationships with their customers.

“The integration with Envestment | Yodlee is another milestone in our aggressive 2022 technology roadmap,” FutureVault CEO Daniel Kenny said. “This integration is driven by our plan to continue building the most comprehensive digital vault solution and will contribute toward our strategic platform vision that brings together Documents, Data, and Digital Assets.”

FutureVault put the partnership in the context of the company’s Personal Life Management initiative. This thesis is based on aggregating financial documents and data in a secure location while giving financial planners and advisors the ability to leverage FutureVault’s technology to provide a “family office” type of service.

“This integration with Envestnet | Yodlee is not only driven by improving the relationship advisors will have with their clients,” FutureVault co-founder and Executive Chairman G. Scott Paterson said. “It is about ultimately providing clients with access to the best tools to manage their financial lives that extend beyond the advisor.”

FutureVault made its Finovate debut at FinovateFall 2016 in New York. Recently, the company has partnered with companies like PureFacts to facilitate secure and automatic delivery of financial statements, and with enterprise wealth management platform d1g1t. With this collaboration, FutureVault’s secure document exchange technology will help the d1g1t better manage its compliance, document retention, and document sharing responsibilities.

“We know that there is a significant need across the industry for all-encompassing solutions,” Kenny said when the strategic partnership with d1g1t was announced in late March. “By partnering with the exceptional team at d1g1t, we can bring that type of integrated solution to the market that addresses the many workflow challenges firms and advisors face, while elevating the experience for both clients and advisors.”

Founded in 2014, FutureVault has raised $2.3 million in funding. Current CEO Daniel Kenny was appointed to the position in January of this year after serving briefly as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Previously, Kenny was an executive at HSBC for more than 22 years.

FutureVault Appoints John D. Orr as New CEO

FutureVault Appoints John D. Orr as New CEO

FutureVault announced this week that the company has hired banking executive, attorney, and investment professional John D. Orr to serve as its new CEO. Orr takes the helm of the company from G. Scott Paterson, who will continue as Executive Chairman.

Paterson praised Orr’s “extensive experience” and “tremendous entrepreneurial and investment acumen.” Adding that FutureVault “set out to recruit a leader with the vision and management skills to guide the company to reach its incredible potential,” Paterson noted that the company’s relatively recent commercial launch made it an ideal time to bring Orr on board. With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Orr (pictured) spent several years in a variety of senior leadership positions at CBIC including Head of Amicus Division, Head of International Retail Markets, and most recently, EVP for Strategy and Corporate Development. Orr is founder and managing director of Orr Capital Management, and serves as an advisor to G2 Investment Group, Applied Data Finance, and The Kessler Group.

Calling information “the next and ultimate asset class,” Orr explained the role FutureVault’s technology plays in helping people manage and protect it. “Everyone understands what current cloud-based document management platforms provide,” he said, “but when viewing information through the lens of an asset class, it is clear that these solutions were not designed to meet this need.” Orr added, “Fundamentally, our role is to provide the tools and intelligence to allow individuals and businesses to optimize the value of their information.”

FutureVault demonstrated its digital information management platform at FinovateFall 2016. Last month, the company partnered with BlueRock Wealth Management, giving the firm’s HNW (high net worth) clients access to the intelligent document management technology. FutureVault began the year with a trio of major, C-level additions, bringing on Kevin Whyte as president and COO, Tom Duane as CTO, and Rudy Sankovic as CFO.

FutureVault Partners with BlueRock Wealth Management

FutureVault Partners with BlueRock Wealth Management

“Everybody’s gotta have a little place for their stuff,” the late great George Carlin reminded us years ago. “That’s all life is about. Trying to find a place for your stuff.”

Digital safety deposit box developer FutureVault appears to agree. The company announced this week that it is partnering with BlueRock Wealth Management, providing the firm’s high net worth (HNW) clients with access to its secure digital filing technology and information management platform. BlueRock President Neal Owen highlighted the data management functionality of the new solution, BlueRock Vault, referring to it as the type of technology that is important in both storing and managing digital documents. He said the partnership would help his firm to safeguard information as well as it safeguards assets.

In his comments on the news, FutureVault CEO and Executive Chairman G. Scott Paterson emphasized the “unique needs” of high net worth clients and their families. In addition to providing bank-grade security, optical character recognition (OCR), pre-configured digital filing cabinets, and sophisticated tagging, BlueRock Vault clients will have access to FutureVault’s Trusted Advisor service. This feature enables clients to allow a trusted fiduciary such as a financial advisor or attorney to enter and manage their information on their behalf.

The ability to serve HNW clients was demonstrated by Paterson’s own use of the technology as an “alpha” customer when he formally launched the technology at FinovateFall a year ago. He showed how the platform was easily able to accommodate clients with a complex set of data storage requirements (for example, a HNW family with multiple business concerns, a small trust, a foundation, etc.), noting that the platform scales downward as well “(these categories) could also be family members, parents, business divisions.”

Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, FutureVault demoed its technology at FinovateFall 2016. Last month, the company announced a partnership with C-Suite Network, which will offer the C-Suite Vault as a premier value-added service to executive clients. FutureVault began the year by bolstering its own C-suite, adding three former TD Bank executives, Kevin Whyte, Tom Duane, and Rudy Sankovic to its ranks as president and COO, CTO, and CFO, respectively.
