FinovateEurope 2017 Best of Show Winners Announced

FinovateEurope 2017 Best of Show Winners Announced

IMG_0420

After two days of live demonstrations of some of the most novel innovations in fintech, our FinovateEurope audience has made its voice heard as to which technologies represent the Best of Show.

This year’s award winners are a fascinating mix of Finovate veterans like Backbase, eToro, SaleMove, and Tink, all of whom have been honored with Best of Show trophies in the past, as well as newcomers like Dorsum and Memento, which accompanied their Finovate debuts with Best of Show awards of their own. And how fun is it to celebrate a company like CREALOGIX, a Finovate alum since 2011, that picked up its very first Best of Show honors this week?

A hearty congratulations to all seven of FinovateEurope 2017’s Best of Show winners – and to all of the companies that demonstrated their technologies at our London conference this year. From artificial intelligence and chatbots to technologies that make it easier for us to earn, save, and invest, yours are the innovations that remind us how valuable the relationship between finance and technology can be.

Backbase---Hi-ResBackbase for showing how artificial intelligence and PSD2 can turn a mobile app into a smart virtual assistant.

CREALOGIXCREALOGIX for its predictive banking in virtual reality technology that transcends complex interfaces to provide a user experience that accommodates emotion, creativity, and logic when it comes to making financial decisions.

Dorsum_logo_2016_cmykDorsum for its chatbot factory and botboarding platform that creates chatbots that combine human-like, natural language communication with traditional customer data collection and profiling.

eToro_Logo_VectoreToro for its worldwide social trading network of more than five million members that makes the trading and investing environment more social, more enjoyable, and more transparent.

Memento-LogoMemento for its Bank-to-Social Relationship platform and next generation mobile money app that helps banks deepen engagement with current customers and better attract and acquire new customers, as well.

SaleMoveSaleMove for its Engagement Platform that enables FIs and other companies to communicate with online visitors via chat and dual-cursor guided cobrowsing, as well as video and voice.

Tink_LogoTink for its independent, consumer PFM app that brings together aggregation, account information, and payment initiation services to provide a truly PSD2-compliant, virtual bank experience.

We had a great time this year at FinovateEurope and hope you enjoyed getting to know our presenting companies and the unique ways they leverage technology to solve problems. Thanks and gratitude to all of our sponsors, partners, presenters, and – of course – our attendees, for making this celebration of financial technology possible. We’ll see you next year!

Notes on methodology:
1. Only audience members NOT associated with demoing companies were eligible to vote. Finovate employees did not vote.
2. Attendees were encouraged to note their favorites during each day. At the end of the last demo, they chose their three favorites.
3. The exact written instructions given to attendees: “Please rate (the companies) on the basis of demo quality and potential impact of the innovation demoed.”
4. The six companies appearing on the highest percentage of submitted ballots were named “Best of Show.”
5. Go here for a list of previous Best of Show winners through 2014. Best of Show winners from our 2015 and 2016 conferences are below:

CREALOGIX Wins Best Web Development at Systems in the City Awards 2016

CREALOGIX Wins Best Web Development at Systems in the City Awards 2016

crealogix_wins_systems_in_the_city_awards

In 2015, CREALOGIX CEO Dr. Mike Bradford won a Lifetime Achievement Award from Systems in the City. Today we learn that the Swiss digital banking software innovator is back in the Systems in the City winner’s circle, having earned top honors for “Best Web Development”.

“The winning of the award means a huge amount to the entire CREALOGIX team,” said Ben Mann, head of web development for CREALOGIX. “It is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the company as a whole, as well as serving as a challenge for us in the year ahead, to continue to be at the forefront of quality web development in the fintech arena.”

Specifically, CREALOGIX won accolades for its implementation of its Digital Banking Hub with Tilney Bestinvest, a U.K. brokerage firm with 240 financial planners, 120 investment managers, and 20 billion pounds under management. With newly added features to improve the platform’s utility to brokerages, CREALOGIX’s Digital Banking Hub offers wealth managers the ability to readily integrate personalized advice into all systems.

Nominees for the Systems in the City Awards are made by members of London’s financial services sector, including stockbrokers, wealth managers, and investment bankers. An independent panel of “prominent City professionals” determines the final award. CREALOGIX’s Bradford said that the award helped highlight his company’s “technical excellence and position at the forefront of fintech in the U.K.”

Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, CREALOGIX demonstrated its technology at FinovateEurope 2016. The Systems in the City award news comes just a week after the announcement that CREALOGIX had partnered with fellow Finovate alum, Entersekt, to build a new authentication solution. The company began the year by forging a digital banking partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

CREALOGIX Adds Authentication Technology from South African FinDEVr Alum, Entersekt

CREALOGIX Adds Authentication Technology from South African FinDEVr Alum, Entersekt

CREALOGIX will deploy an authentication solution based on Entersekt’s Transakt. The technology creates an end-to-end, out-of-band channel between the users’ mobile device and the financial institution’s back-end systems to enable transmission of digital signature certificates and other communication between FIs and their customers.

Speaking to the concerns over the authentication challenges with mobile payments, CREALOGIX CEO Thomas Avedik emphasized how important it is for banks to find “a method that is extremely safe, cost-efficient and that is also helping them to offer unrivalled customer experience.” He said Entersekt’s technology would play a role in helping build the “bank of the future.”

Entersekt_homepage_June2016

Entersekt CEO Schalk Nolte pointed to interest in his company’s technology from FIs in regions ranging from Africa to Europe. He called CREALOGIX, which is headquartered in Switzerland and has offices in Germany, the U.K., and Singapore, “a strong business partner that understands how strong two-factor authentication helps the industry to protect digital transactions.” Entersekt’s Transakt SDK enables FIs to integrate the company’s multifactor-authentication technology into their mobile apps. (FIs can use an off-the shelf Transaskt mobile app for faster rollout, if needed.) The technology generates a unique device ID, which provides a nonrepudiable record of customer responses, protects against “man in the middle” attacks with public key-pinning, and uses an encrypted channel to enable both out-of-band authentication, as well as to better defend against brute force and malware attacks.

CREALOGIX was founded in 1996 and is based in Zurich, Switzerland. The company demonstrated its digital banking/ API layer at FinovateEurope 2016, shortly after announcing a new digital banking partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise. CREALOGIX raised $25.4 million in new funding last fall (CHF 25 million) in a convertible bond offering, the largest fintech fundraising in Switzerland in 2015.

Interviewed in April by CNBC Africa, and featured this June in Disrupt Africa, Entersekt presented its technology at the inaugural FinDEVr developers conference in San Francisco in 2014. The South Africa-based company discussed “Securing Mobile Applications through Transport Layer Diversity” in a presentation from Entersekt CTO Christiaan Brand. Brand explained the problem of some of the more common authentication strategies, such as SMP one-time passwords, showing how multifactor, out-of-band authentication processes—such as Transakt—are superior. Among other FIs that have adopted the technology are FirstBank, which announced in February that it would deploy Entersekt’s Transakt multifactor-authentication technology, and Equity Bank, which reported in January that it had chosen both Transakt and Interakt to improve the security of its online banking, mobile banking, and payments products.

Digital banking innovator CREALOGIX has raised 25 million Swiss francs ($25.4 million) in a convertible bond offering launched in late October and placed with institutional investors. The fundraising is the largest fintech investment of the year in Switzerland.

CREALOGIX CEO Bruno Richle said the”very oversubscribed” investment will help his company grow “not only in Switzerland, but also in Germany and Great Britain.” Richle added that the funds will help drive innovation in the company’s Digital Banking Hub.

Proceeds from the convertible bond sale will also support CREALOGIX’s new stake in German fintech, ELAXY. ELAXY provides interactive advisory solutions for banks, and CREALOGIX has acquired 80% of ELAXY Financial Software and Solutions and 20% of ELAXY Business Solution and Services. Combined, the two businesses have annual sales of €10 million.

Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, CREALOGIX demonstrated its BankClip technology at FinovateEurope 2015 in London. The company announced its outlook for fiscal 2015-2016 last month, signaling net sales of “at least CHF 54 million” which would represent growth of more than 10%. The company unveiled the latest edition of its Digital Banking Portal this spring with new PFM and fund-brokerage features, and added biometric authentication via TouchID to its mobile banking solutions in February 2015.
