Narrative Science Turns Business Intel Into Data-Driven Stories

Narrative Science Turns Business Intel Into Data-Driven Stories

NarrativeScience_NarrativesforBI

With the launch of Narratives for Power BI, Narrative Science unveils the latest integration of its advanced natural language generation (NLG) technology. The new extension, developed in collaboration with Microsoft, will give Microsoft Power BI users advanced analytics and data-visualization tools to help them read and understand corporate data.

“Integrating Advanced NLG into Microsoft Power BI enables our customers to automatically turn complex data into insightful stories,” says Nick Caldwell, general manager of Microsoft Power BI. Both companies emphasized the importance of making technologies like advanced NLG accessible to the business. This collaboration is, according to Narrative Science CEO Stuart Frankel, key to “maximiz(ing) the value of their business intelligence efforts.”

NarrativeScience_screenshot“Put simply, this collaboration not only enhances and amplifies the user experience for customers of Power BI,” Frankel wrote in a blog post about the launch, “but also further drives the democratization of information, where users don’t need to interpret data and visualizations—they simply need to read.” Microsoft Power BI has more than 5 million users and works with Adobe Analytics, Github, Salesforce, and more than 50 other data sources.

Narratives for Power BI is the second major new innovation from Narrative Science this year. In January, Narrative Science launched Narratives for Qlik, bringing its advanced NLG technology to the Pennsylvania-based company’s visual analytics and business-intelligence platform. Narrative Science was featured in Forbes earlier this month, and in the New York Times in February. The company has raised more than $29 million in funding; most recently picking up $10 million in a round led by USAA.

Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Narrative Science demoed Quill Financial at FinovateFall 2013.

Narrative Science Introduces Narratives for Qlik

Narrative Science is bringing its natural-language-generation technology to Qlik Sense, adding intelligent narratives, intuitive analysis, and insights to Qlik’s data-visualization platform.

Calling the collaboration an example of Qlik’s “leadership in the data discovery industry,” Narrative Science CEO Stuart Frankel sees businesses and industries embracing NLG.

“The next generation of smart data discovery platforms will include natural language generation capabilities to explain findings to users,” Frankel said. “It is just a matter of time before this is a mandatory capability of visualization and business intelligence applications.”

Qlik specializes in visual analytics and business intelligence, ranging from reporting and self-service solutions to guided, embedded, and custom analysis. With the company’s technology, businesses can build drag-and-drop visualizations, create apps, and embed analytics into their websites and apps using both open and standard platform APIs. With offices worldwide and partners in more than 100 locations, Qlik is headquartered in Radnor, Pennsylvania, and trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker “QLIK.”

Narratives for Qlik automatically creates dynamic narratives that help illuminate key points in Qlik’s data visualizations. Moreover, Narratives for Qlik not only explains what the charts and graphs show, but also helps users discover non-obvious patterns and relationships in the data. Industry analyst Seth Grimes called the technology “a groundbreaking BI innovation,” adding that “the tight link to Qlik’s associative analysis and its personalization possibilities are pluses, but it’s the ability to provide a new means of communicating insights that is really compelling.”

Narratives for Qlik is available for download.

Founded in January 2010 and headquartered in Chicago, Narrative Science demonstrated Quill Financial at FinovateFall 2013. In November, Narrative Science unveiled its anti-money laundering solution, Quill for AML, and in September, the company launched a new version of its Quill Engage technology for Google Analytics. Last summer, Narrative Science released its Quill Portfolio Review solution, which helps money managers create better institutional portfolio commentary.

Narrative Science Introduces Anti-money Laundering Solution, Quill for AML

Narrative Science Introduces Anti-money Laundering Solution, Quill for AML

NarrativeScience_homepage_Oct2015

In launching Quill for AML today, Narrative Science leveraged its advanced natural language technology to bring new anti-money laundering technologies to the enterprise.

Quill for AML automates regulatory and compliance reporting and documentation typically done by hand. The solution allows businesses to produce SAR (Suspicious Activity Report) narratives and other reports that are consistent and traceable. And the automation speeds up the process, making filing deadlines easier to meet.

Stuart Frankel, CEO of Narrative Science, said Quill for AML helps compliance teams avoid wasting time on false positives and “superfluous and unproductive alerts.”

“Organizations that wish to remain competitive and compliant should look to Quill for AML to augment reporting processes so analysts’ time is freed up to add value in other ways,” Frankel said.

Julie Conroy, research director for Aite Group’s retail banking practice, seconded this point and praised Quill for AML’s ability to produce “consistent and accurate” SAR narratives at scale. “Even if they have budget to hire, it’s increasingly difficult to find good AML analysts able to work mounting alerts,” she said.

Quill for AML is the latest deployment of the company’s Quill technology. The company launched its enhanced Quill Engage for Google Analytics solution in September, and unveiled its Quill Portfolio Review technology in June. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Chicago, Narrative Science demonstrated Quill Financial at FinovateFall 2013 in New York.

According to Narrative Science, now is a great time to get engaged.

The natural language generation specialist has launched a new, enhanced version of its Quill Engage for Google Analytics technology. Quill Engage turns Google Analytics data into actionable, natural language analysis and reports that are easier to understand and easier for website operators to implement.

“By upgrading to the new version of Quill Engage, users can spend more time improving a business’s digital presence and less time trying to make sense of the huge volumes of data generated by Google Analytics,” says Stuart Frankel, co-founder and CEO of Narrative Science.

The technology is available in three versions: free; Basic ($19.99/month); Premium ($49.99). According to Narrative Science, more than 13,000 users are on the platform, and the solution has earned high marks from the likes of the Content Marketing Institute, the Social Media Examiner, and RazorSocial.
