Kabbage Secures $12 Million in Financing

Kabbage, provider of working capital to online retailers, announced a new round of financing today. The startup received $12 million in debt financing from California-based Western Technology Investment. 

Kabbage states that the money will help it provide more working capital to its network of 10,000-plus online merchants.

Finovate Alumni Website Traffic in September

Each month we survey the Web-traffic performance of Finovate alums using data from Web-analytics company Compete.
Out of 268 alumni, 80 had more than 10,000 unique U.S. visitors in September 2011 and are included in the tables below. Of those, 33 (41%) had more visitors in September than August. Year-over-year, 42 (52%) had traffic increases.
Private Companies
  • Seeking Alpha and Cortera had the highest traffic in September with 2.1 and 2.0 million unique visitors, respectively. Cortera also had the highest increase in number of unique year-over-year visits with over 1.5 more visits in 2011 than in 2010.
  • Kabbage had the highest percentage growth year-over-year, up 280x.
  • Weemba saw the highest monthly growth percentage with more than 7.5 times the number of unique visitors in September compared to August.
  • SmartCredit.com had the highest increase in number of unique year-over-year visitors, growing by 126,000.

  • Seeking Alpha — the most-trafficked in August with 2.5 million unique visitors — also had the highest increase in number of unique month-over-month visits with 300,000 more visits in August than in July.
  • Budgettracker.com saw the highest monthly growth percentage with more than 6.5 times the number of unique visitors in August compared to July.
  • Betterment had the highest percentage growth year-over-year, up 88x.
  • Cortera had the highest number of unique year-over-year visitors, growing by 1.5 million.

With Kabbage’s SocialKlimbing, Online Merchants Benefit From Being Social

This morning, Kabbage demonstrated SocialKlimbing, which enables online merchants to benefit from engaging in online social activity:

“Kabbage has launched the SocialKlimbing feature of its system, which enables online merchants to associate their social activities with their Kabbage account. By doing so, Kabbage incorporates information from these social media sites to underwrite risk and enable online merchants to receive a benefit by actively engaging with audiences interested in their products and services.”

Kabbage Receives $17 Million in Series B Funding, Secures Patent

Kabbage, a startup that provides working capital to online businesses, revealed two big announcements today. 
First, it received $17 million in funding from Mohr Davidow Ventures, BlueRun Ventures, David Bonderman, Warren Stephens and UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund. With this funding, Kabbage says:
“We’re able to explore new territories; we can pursue additional marketplaces, new financial products and expand our model even further now.”
Second, it has been awarded a US patent:
“The US Patent is an ‘apparatus to provide liquid funds in the online auction and marketplace environment.’ Basically, it’s a system that lets use an online merchant’s shop and selling history to best determine how dire a need there is of funds.”
