Trustev Wins SXSW Accelerator Award for Top Enterprise Startup

Fresh off their Finovate debut, Irish-based real-time ID verification innovator Trustev is the latest winner in the SXSW Accelerator awards in the Enterprise and Big Data category.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time,”Trustev CEO Pat Phelan said in an interview with News At One. “I’m just moving to the U.S. to head up the U.S. launch of the business.”

More than 1,000 companies applied for this year’s SXSW Accelerator. Forty-eight were selected to compete for 18 spots in the competition’s final round.
This year marks the sixth year of the event, held in Austin, Texas as part of the annual SXSW Music Film Interactive. Previous Accelerator participants include Klout (2009) and Siri (2010), as well as Finovate alums Kabbage (2011), OneID, and Toopher (both 2012).

A specialist in online fraud detection, Trustev serves more than 100 customers in five countries, and has raised more than $3.5 million in seed and angel funding. The company recently announced a partnership with Datameer, a big data analytics firm, that will help them further enhance the capabilities of their fraud detection system.
Trustev was named Europe’s Top Technology Startup by the EU Commission, and was recognized as one of the Hottest Global Startups by Forbes magazine. See the company in action in their video from FinovateEurope in February here.

Trustev Retail Decision Brings Real-time Verification to Across the Counter Transactions

Trustev Retail Decision (Trustev RD) provides real-time verification of customer identities in a physical retail location where across the counter sales are occurring. A software solution that runs on tablets, the product allows in store staff to verify customer identities, without requiring customers to produce masses of paperwork. Developed initially for the Retail Telecom sector, the product has been adapted for other industries.”

Metrics: Founded in early 2013, Trustev currently employs 15 at its HQ in Cork, Ireland and recently opened a Sales Office in New York. In late 2013, Trustev announced one of Europe’s largest ever seed rounds when it raised $3.5 million from a mix of international funds – a huge achievement for a company less than a year old.     Finovate Alumni Raise $825 Million in 2013, Up 79%

    Cheers to a new year! After ringing in 2014, we wanted take a look back at the capital raised by Finovate alumni in 2013. It was quite a year, with alums pulling in $825 million, $365 million more than in 2012 for an increase of about 80%.
    2013 funding summary:
      • 62 companies raised $825 million
      • Q4 had the most capital, with a total of $294 million raised by 17 companies (more than half by Xero, which landed $150 million). 
      • October was the busiest month, with $177 million raised (mostly Xero’s $150 million)
      • May was second highest with $91 million raised by 7 companies
    2012 comparison
    Last year Finovate alums took in almost twice as much as 2012, when 44 Finovate alums collectively raised $460 million. The chart below shows the quarter-by-quarter comparison for both years.
