Monitise Partners with U.K.-based Associated Newspapers

Yesterday, mobile money specialist Monitise announced it has partnered with U.K.-based Associated Newspapers.

As part of the partnership, Monitise’s technology will power mobile transactions on an app used to make purchases from Associated Newspapers’ publicationsThe Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday.

Monitise also disclosed its mobile payments figures:

    • Over one billion transactions processed per year
    • More than £9.5 billion in payments and transfers processed weekly

Monitise Buys Competitor Clairmail for $173 Million

United States-based mobile banking and payment solutions provider, Clairmail announced this morning that it will be acquired by Monitise, its European-based competitor.

Monitise will acquire Clairmail for $173 million to expand its international presence by leveraging Clairmail’s grasp on the North American market.

Together, Monitise and Clairmail will:

    • Have 13 million registered consumers 
    • Operate across four continents
    • Process billions of transactions per year
    • Have 600 employees
    • Process $10 billion in payments and transfers per year

The deal is expected to close on June 30, the end of Monitise’s fiscal year.

Monitise Signs 5 Year Partnership Agreement with FIS

Mobile banking platform company, Monitise and banking and payments technologies provider, FIS have entered into a five year strategic partnership agreement: 

“Under the terms of the five-year deal, which involves multi-million dollar per annum revenues, FIS and Monitise have created an agile mobile development and deployment team that will help banks and other financial institutions defend and extend their role in the payments industry by creating secure and innovative new products and services.'”

While the two were previously in a joint venture agreement, Monitise bought out the joint venture a little over a month ago, leaving FIS with a 3.3% equity stake.
