The results were impressive:

  • A total of 34 companies received funding, some more than once
  • The companies collectively raised over $423 million dollars
  • The months with the highest number of companies receiving funding were June August, both with 8 companies
  • The highest amount of funding came in the month of June, when the alumni brought in over $124.4 million
Here is a month-by-month breakdown of funding received:

January -- $40.8 million raised by 3 companies

February -- $10.3+ million raised by 3 companies

March -- $20.4 million raised by 4 companies

June -- $124.4 million raised by 8 companies

July -- $1.1 million raised by 1 company

August -- $103.4 million raised by 8 companies

September -- $33 million raised by 1 company

October-- $22 million raised by 2 companies

November -- $16.3+ million raised by 3 companies

December -- $52.2 million raised by 5 companies

PeerTransfer, a startup that facilitates international tuition payments, announced a partnership with Tuition Management Systems, an organization that helps students manage college costs. 

"Through the partnership, families will be given additional flexibility and be able to make tuition and other education related payments, typically in the currency of their home country."

The peerTransfer platform will be available to Tuition Management Systems's network of over 700 schools across the nation. Students of these schools will benefit from lower fees and favorable exchange rates, saving up to $1,500 on a $40,000 tuition payment

Peertransferlogo.jpgLast week, peerTransfer announced that during the third quarter of 2011 it signed up more than 30 new universities:

"Schools such as Oberlin College, Georgia State University, Western Kentucky University, Mount Holyoke College, University of San Diego and Stevens Institute of Technology join peerTransfer's now 50 plus partner schools."

The startup allows international students to finance tuition in their own currency helping them save on currency exchange fees.

International education payment startup, peerTransfer, announced a round of $7.5 million in Series A funding from Spark Capital, Accel Partners, Maveron, and Boston Seed Capital.

"The funding will be used to increase headcount and infrastructure across functional areas to support growth as it expands the number of colleges and universities it works with. peerTransfer already works with over 30 leading institutions..."

This round, when added to the $1.1 million in seed money received last October, brings the startup's total funding to $8.6 million.
