Trulioo’s GlobalGateway Available in BRIC Countries

Trulioo’s GlobalGateway Available in BRIC Countries

TruliooHomepage

Identity verification provider Trulioo has expanded the geographic coverage of its online electronic identity-verification service GlobalGateway to support Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

This group of countries, known as BRIC, houses 41% of the global population and supports an emerging middle class of 1.2 billion people. In these markets, business-to-consumer ecommerce is estimated to grow faster than in well developed markets.

Trulioo president Jon Jones says their efforts were focused in securing data sources in these particular markets because of the “significant growth in cross-border commerce, which has been made possible [through] Internet penetration and mobile technology.” He added that these emerging BRIC markets “are ripening to become the main markets of tomorrow, and require versatile identity-verification tools to do so.”

GlobalGatewayGlobalGateway enables businesses and banks to verify 4 billion new and existing client identities from 45 countries via 145 data sources to maintain KYC and AML compliance. The product is available as an API or through an online portal.

Last month, Trulioo won the Innovation in Cyber Security Award at the 2016 Fintech Innovation Awards. Late last year, the company closed on $15 million in a round led by American Express Ventures, bringing its total funding to more than $23 million.

Vancouver, B.C.-based Trulioo demoed how its GlobalGateway works at FinovateFall 2015. During FinDEVr San Francisco 2014, the company presented the GlobalGateway API.

Finovate, FinDEVr Alums Among Winners of 2016 Fintech Innovation Awards

Finovate, FinDEVr Alums Among Winners of 2016 Fintech Innovation Awards

FinTechInnovationAwards_2016_homepage

Of the 15 first place prizes awarded this month in the 2016 Fintech Innovation Awards, five went to Finovate/FinDEVr alums.

“This award is recognition of the strength of our idea for peer-to-peer lending and the growth we have seen since then as the idea has moved mainstream,” Giles Andrews said. “Of course, credit should go much more to the team who helped build Zopa’s scale, particularly Jaidev who took the reins last year and led the company to record levels of growth.”

“FinTech continues to be at the forefront of innovation, and that requires equally innovative RegTech solutions for risk management, security, and fraud,” Zac Cohen, Trulioo general manager, said. “Our Compliance-as-a-Service technology addresses that need, enabling pioneering technologies to grow their businesses and protect their users on a global scale.”

“In a shifting U.K. market, our range of price-optimization products are helping banks to better understand their customers’ behaviors and sensitivities through advanced analytics and analysis,” Damian Young, managing director, EMEA at Nomis Solutions, said, “This brings banks significant competitive and market advantage that will help them grow smartly and responsibly in any economic environment.”

“It’s brilliant to be recognized by the industry for our work in creating an award-winning money-transfer service, but the best prize of all is our ever-growing number of happy customers,” Azimo founder and CEO Michael Kent said. “They’re all part of the Azimo story – sending money home to support loved ones for all kinds of reasons.”

Also earning recognition at the event was EquityZen. The company, which will make its Finovate debut next month at FinovateSpring 2016 in San Jose, won the Innovation in Wealth, Asset, and Investment Management category.

Hosted by Julia Streets, CEO and founder of Streets Consulting, the 2016 FinTech Innovation Awards winners were chosen by a group of leading fintech specialists chaired by Dan Cobley, managing partner at Blenheim Chalcot. Taking home top honors in the remaining 11 categories were:

  • Innovation of the Year: ClearScore
  • Fintech Marketing Campaign of the Year: “Cashless on the Catwalk” by The 10 Group and Visa Europe
  • Fintech Startup of the Year: ClearScore
  • Innovation in Corporate Banking Solutions: Idea Cloud by Idea Bank SA
  • Innovation in Insurance: Bought by Many platform by Bought By Many and Ping An Insurance.
  • Innovation in Lending: Marketinvoice
  • Innovation in Payments: Zwipe Payment by Zwipe
  • Innovation in Risk Management: Imagine Software
  • Innovation in Trading Systems: FX Connect from State Street Bank
  • Innovation in Treasury Management: Walletsizing by Vallstein

The FinTech Innovation Awards were held at The Brewery in London on April 13th. The event featured a keynote address from author and Duke University professor, Dan Ariely, as well as remarks from Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General, Matt Hancock. Finovate alum Strands was among the event’s sponsors.

Where Are They Now? FinovateSpring Alums Raise More than $326 Million in a Year

Where Are They Now? FinovateSpring Alums Raise More than $326 Million in a Year

FS2015_overheadview

Last week we took a look at what the alums of FinovateSpring 2015 have been up to in the year since they demoed on the Finovate stage. Today, we’re focusing on the funding.

All $326 million of it.

Of the 72 companies that demoed at FinovateSpring 2015 in San Jose last year, 21 of them had raised capital within a year. Kabbage’s raise of $135 million certainly stands out. But the $25 million investment picked up by itBit in May of last year, as well as the $15 million raised by Trulioo and the $12 million raised by Moven were also major contributors to a strong fundraising performance from the Class of FinovateSpring 2015. And this doesn’t even include companies such as Yodlee, which was acquired by Envestnet for $660 million, or Aurora Financial Systems, bought by fellow Finovate alum, Finicity, for an undisclosed sum.

Trulioo Raises $15 Million with Help from American Express Ventures

Trulioo Raises $15 Million with Help from American Express Ventures

Trulioo_homepage_Dec2016

Identity-verification specialist Trulioo picked up $15 million in new funding to help fuel growth. The round featured participation from American Express Ventures, along with existing investors BDC Capital, Blumberg Capital, and Tenfore Holdings. Trulioo’s total capital now stands at more than $23 million.

Trulioo CEO Stephen Ufford called the investment a vote of confidence in the company’s ability to help FIs deal with the complexity of cross-border compliance. Specializing in AML (anti-money laundering) and KYC (know your customer) verification, Trulioo’s technology enables businesses to provide frictionless ID verification in more than 40 countries around the world.

Trulioo_stage_FinovateFall 2015

Anatoly Kvitnitsky, director of corporate development for Trulioo, demonstrated GlobalGateway at FinovateFall 2015.

Rohit Bodas of American Express Ventures highlighted Trulioo’s global reach as one of the reasons for backing the company, and called cross-border compliance “a complex problem and an important issue for the financial industry.” GlobalGateway, Trulioo’s identity-verification platform, leverages 145 different data sources, including alternative sources such as mobile apps, social media, and ad networks to verify online identities. The technology is effective in developing markets such as China, Brazil and India, and developers can integrate the technology via Trulioo’s web portal, XML Direct, or through a Normalized API.

Trulioo recently partnered with fellow Finovate alum Avoka and integrated GlobalGateway with the latter’s Transact technology. Trulioo expanded its coverage to India in October, taking its total reach to four billion worldwide.

American Express Ventures focuses on startups with technologies that can help it expand its core capabilities as well as grow in digital commerce and financial inclusion. The firm includes Finovate alums Bill.com, LearnVest, and Radius among its investments.

Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Trulioo demonstrated its GlobalGateway platform at FinovateFall 2015. The company also presented at the inaugural FinDEVr developers conference in 2014.
