Finicity Scores $42 Million Series B in Round Led by Experian

Finicity Scores $42 Million Series B in Round Led by Experian

finicity_homepage_december2016

Real-time financial data-aggregation provider Finicity will use $42 million in new capital to drive new product development, especially financial management and payment solutions for the credit decisioning market. The Series B round was led by Experian (F12), included a venture debt facility from Bridge Bank, and featured participation from Finicity’s existing investors.

Finicity CEO and co-founder Steve Smith said the funding represented a belief in his company’s vision of transforming the financial data services market. “The emergence of the open financial web, and our ability to access and analyze account data, is enabling new thinking in financial services,” Smith said. “This will improve existing processes and lead to better financial decisions for individuals and the institutions that serve them.”

Finicity Data Services President Nick Thomas and CTO Chip Whitmer demonstrated TxPUSH API at FinovateSpring 2015.

Finicity’s recent certification as a credit-reporting agency was a hint that the financial data-aggregation services veteran might add credit decisioning to its set of solutions. To start, Finicity will focus on making the loan origination process more efficient, in part by “digitiz(ing) the legacy pen-and-paper process of asset and income verification.”

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, Finicity demonstrated its TxPUSH API for fintech apps at FinovateSpring 2015, and presented “The Launch of Real-time Transaction Push” at FinDEVr New York 2016. In September, the company unveiled its ACH Account Verification API and, in August, Finicity won the Finance API of the Year award from API World.

Finicity Unveils New ACH Account Verification API

Finicity Unveils New ACH Account Verification API

finicity_homepage_september2016

Thanks to Finovate/FinDEVr alum Finicity, developers have a new API to use to add account verification to their payment and investment apps. Finicity’s new ACH Account Verification API gives developers the ability to quickly verify necessary account information for initiating inbound ACH account transfers.

“At Finicity, we’re committed to expanding our APIs and services to enrich existing partner offerings and open new partner markets,” Nick Thomas, co-founder and president of Finicity Data Services said. “The ACH Account Verification API accomplishes both by providing foundational payment and investment-account funding services across a high percentage of deposit accounts in the U.S.”

finicity_findevrny2016_stage

Finicity President and co-founder Nick Thomas during his presentation “The Launch of Real-Time Transaction Push” at FinDEVr New York 2016.

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Murray, Utah, Finicity demonstrated its TxPUSH API for fintech apps at FinovateSpring 2015. The company is also a veteran of the FinDEVr developer conferences, presenting “The Launch of Real-Time Transaction Push” at FinDEVr New York 2016 earlier this year. Finicity has raised more than $18 million in funding, and last fall acquired fellow Finovate alum, Aurora Financial Systems.

With more than 1,400 direct integrations to help app builders add new client onboarding and ongoing funds-verification sourcing, Finicity has the broadest coverage of directly sourced account information in North America. The company won the Finance API of the Year award from API World in August, and partnered with fellow FinDEVr alum, Intuit Developer Group, when the company decided to discontinue its financial services APIs this spring.

Talking about his company’s experience onboarding and working with new clients at FinDEVr New York 2016 this spring, Finicity’s Nick Thomas said, “It’s a fascinating place to be, to be in the platform space, and to see all this amazing innovation that’s happening. You think you’ve seen exciting stuff today. You have no idea what cool things are coming down the pipeline.” If “exciting” and “cool” are words you use to describe the latest in tools, tips, and tricks for fintech developers, then join us October 18 and 19 for FinDEVr Silicon Valley 2016. Braintree, Finicity, and Twilio Take Top Honors at API World Awards

Braintree, Finicity, and Twilio Take Top Honors at API World Awards

2016API_Awards_homepage

Finovate and FinDEVr alums Braintree, Finicity and Twilio won recognition at the API World Awards sponsored by API World 2016. Braintree earned the top spot in the Payment APIs category for its payments-platform technology, and Finicity won first place in the Finance APIs category for its Financial Data API with TxPUSH. Twilio was the top recipient of votes in the Communication APIs category. The three companies were among 18 startups competing in more than 30 API categories ranging from API Infrastructure and API Security to Enterprise APIs and Internet of Things APIs.

The jury of six featured Michael Ludden, product manager, developer relations for IBM Watson; John Musser, founder and CEO of API Science; Neha Sampat, CEO of Built.io; Michael Stowe, developer relations manager for MuleSoft; Steven Willmott, CEO of 3scale; and Rob Zazueta, director of digital strategy, TIBCO Software.

API_Award_BraintreeBraintree’s payment platform serves both online and mobile merchants, providing a secure payment gateway, merchant account, recurrent billing and credit card storage. The company’s APIs are used around the world, giving businesses in 40 countries in North America, Europe, and Australia the ability to accept payments in more than 130 different currencies. Braintree demonstrated its payment solution Venmo Touch at FinovateSpring 2013, and more recently has been a mainstay of our FinDEVr developer conferences on both East and West Coasts. Braintree, which was acquired by PayPal for $800 million in cash in 2013, announced that its Venmo P2P solution could be used for in-app purchases with selected merchants starting last month.

API_Award_FinicityBased in Salt Lake City, Utah, Finicity demoed its Data Services technology at FinovateSpring 2015, and more recently presented at FinDEVr New York 2016 this spring. At FinDEVr, Finicity unveiled the first TxPUSH-compliant, real-time aggregation service that pushes transaction data to software apps rather than the standard “pull” methodology common to most aggregation services. The company joined forces with fellow FinDEVr alum Intuit when the latter transitioned away from financial data services earlier this year, and acquired fellow Finovate alum Aurora Financial Systems last fall. Nick Thomas is president and co-founder.

API_Award_TwilioTwilio demonstrated its Authy Two-Factor Authentication technology at FinDEVr San Francisco 2015 and at FinovateFall 2015. The company went public in June, raising more than $150 million, and now sports a market capitalization of $4 billion. Twilio announced that it would help AWS deliver SMS messages in July, and was named to the 2016 CNBC Disruptor 50 in June.

Where Are They Now? FinovateSpring Alums Raise More than $326 Million in a Year

Where Are They Now? FinovateSpring Alums Raise More than $326 Million in a Year

FS2015_overheadview

Last week we took a look at what the alums of FinovateSpring 2015 have been up to in the year since they demoed on the Finovate stage. Today, we’re focusing on the funding.

All $326 million of it.

Of the 72 companies that demoed at FinovateSpring 2015 in San Jose last year, 21 of them had raised capital within a year. Kabbage’s raise of $135 million certainly stands out. But the $25 million investment picked up by itBit in May of last year, as well as the $15 million raised by Trulioo and the $12 million raised by Moven were also major contributors to a strong fundraising performance from the Class of FinovateSpring 2015. And this doesn’t even include companies such as Yodlee, which was acquired by Envestnet for $660 million, or Aurora Financial Systems, bought by fellow Finovate alum, Finicity, for an undisclosed sum.
