Expensify Seals Deal with Wells Fargo

Expensify Seals Deal with Wells Fargo

This week, expense reporting app provider Expensify debuted the launch of a deeper bank integration program called ExpensifyApproved! Banks. Wells Fargo, which serves one in three households in the U.S., will pilot the launch.

“Bank integrations have been in the Expensify DNA since day one, and the ExpensifyApproved! Banks program is the next step toward providing a consistent transaction import process for our mutual customers,” said David Barrett, founder and CEO of Expensify. “Wells Fargo has always been a great partner at the forefront of innovation, so it was a natural fit for them to be our first major partner as we launch this exciting new endeavor.”

Expensify users can connect their Wells Fargo bank cards for a smoother expense-tracking experience to help them organize receipts for tax purposes, self-employment expenses, or small business purchases. The ExpensifyApproved! Banks API allows for more secure data sharing between banks and Expensify, and offers banks more control over what data they share with the company.

The new integration offers mutual customers of Expensify and Wells Fargo a faster card setup process, the ability to seamlessly import transactions, access to historical account activity, and a detailed view of transaction data. Ben Soccorsy, Head of Digital Payments for Wells Fargo Virtual Channels said, “With API connectivity, Wells Fargo cardholders in Expensify can trust that they’re getting a smooth and efficient transaction import experience. Robust card connections that run dependably in the background are the perfect complement to fully automated expense reporting in Expensify.”

This launch comes at a time when consumers and businesses are laser-focused on how their data is collected and used. It also coincides closely with the E.U.’s implementation of PSD2, which mandates that banks must open their consumer data stores to third-party providers upon consumer consent. The ExpensifyApproved! Banks API is ahead of the curve on both of these items, and presents an opportunity for U.S. banks to mindfully and securely share consumer data.

At FinDEVr Silicon Valley 2016, Expensify presented Bedrock, an open sourced relational database management system. The company last demoed at FinovateSpring 2013, where Barrett showed off integrated invoicing technology. Earlier this year, Expensify unveiled website enhancements to improve credit card imports and simplify billing currency selections. The company was founded in 2008 and has raised $27.2 million.

Expensify Reports More than 1 Million New Users and Double the Partnerships in 2017

Travel and expense management company Expensify released strong growth figures this week, summarizing a successful 2017. So successful, in fact, the company ended the year with the highest growth rate in its 10-year history.

Here are the highlights:

  • Surpassed $100 billion processed
  • Exceeded 660 million expenses created (more than 180 million expenses were created in 2017 alone)
  • Ended the year with more than 50,000 customers and five million end users across 170 countries
  • Doubled the number of companies in its partner program
  • Received Xero’s App Partner of the Year Award

The San Francisco-based company also enhanced its expense reporting product by adding new features. Expensify improved its report approval workflow and has added the ability to automatically export approved reports in real time. Additionally, at the start of 2018, the company introduced a new user interface and a friendlier user experience.

“The past year has been full of tremendous progress and learnings, and we’re deeply grateful to our customers old and new for their enthusiasm along the way,” said David Barrett, founder and CEO of Expensify. “We have ambitious dreams for 2018 and will continue doing everything we can to make life easier for everyone out there who has better things to do than keep track of receipts.”

At FinDEVr Silicon Valley 2016, Expensify presented Bedrock, an open sourced relational database management system. The company last demoed at FinovateSpring 2013, where the company showed off its integrated invoicing technology. Last month, CB Insights featured Expensify in its list of four apps every executive should download now. In November of last year, the company arranged a data sharing agreement with Wells Fargo.

Expensify Reaches Five Million Users Worldwide, Doubles Customer Base

Expensify Reaches Five Million Users Worldwide, Doubles Customer Base

Expensify announced reaching a pair of major milestones today. First, the expense management software specialist has doubled its customer base this year, growing its number of users to more than five million worldwide. “More and more, employees are tired of spending countless hours doing mundane tasks and instead are turning to technology to speed up those processes,” Expensify founder and CEO David Barrett said. Barrett credited workers themselves for demanding “better tools to expedite their workload” and said this demand “has really translated (into) exponential growth in new customers and partnerships.”

Second, not only has Expensify doubled its customer base, the San Francisco-based company also has doubled the number of accounting companies participating in its partnership program. This includes top 50 accounting firms such as BPM CPA, Kaufman Rossin, Rehmann, and Wipfli. Speaking for Wipfli, partner Mark Stricker called the partnership with Expensify a “crucial” difference-maker for his company.

Pictured: Expensify founder and CEO David Barrett demonstrating Expensify Invoices at FinovateSpring 2013.

“Previously we could only see the full picture of our clients’ financials after all expense reports had been submitted and reimbursed at the end of the month,” Stricker said. “Expensify allows us to track our clients’ spend in realtime, so we can advise our clients based on their current financial status, not last month’s.”

Founded in 2008 and headquartered in San Francisco, Expensify demonstrated the Expensify Invoices feature of its platform at FinovateSpring 2013. Last month, the company announced five new partners for its automation-first, ReceiptBurner platform, and teamed up with Lyft to make auto-expensing easier for the ride-sharing firm’s business travelers. In May, Expensify and fellow Finovate alum Xero partnered to bring OCR receipt scanning, next-day reimbursement, company card reconciliation, and other expense management services to workers at Xero’s 21 offices around the globe. Expensify has raised more than $27 million in funding and includes Redpoint, Barracuda Networks, and OpenView among its investors.
